Chinese activist Chen Guangcheng, who made headlines last year after a dramatic escape from house arrest to the US embassy in Beijing, has accused New York University of forcing him to leave over fears that his presence is affecting the university’s relationship with China. Chen claims that the school, which granted him a fellowship after his departure from China, has been pressured by Chinese authorities to release him in order to open a new NYU campus in Shanghai.
